Readers and Writers Workshop

Tuesday, June 24, 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Elizabeth St. John, critically acclaimed best-selling local author, and discuss the writer’s journey from inspiration to perspiration, discover insider techniques and tricks, and practice basic writing crafts from three-act drama to character arcs. All readers and writers are welcome. This class meets on the last Tuesday of each month.

Light Movement and Longevity Learning

Wednesday, June 25 from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.  This class is tailored to the needs of participants aged 60+ and designed to help improve their mobility, balance, and overall well-being through guided movement exercises and educational discussions on key longevity factors.

The sessions focus on practical, science-backed strategies to enhance stability, t health, sleep quality, stress management, and nutrition. Conner Ward is a certified strength coach, breathwork trainer, nutritionist, holds a master’s degree in exercise physiology, and is the owner of The SmartFit Method, a longevity-focused fitness studio.

Book Club with the Rancho Santa Fe Librarians

Wednesday, June 25, from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. us for a lively discussion at the Senior Center of “The Friend” by Sigrid Nunez. After unexpectedly losing her lifelong best friend and mentor, a woman struggles with her grief while caring for the traumatized Great Dane he left behind, who is also mourning its master. The Bhagavad Gita presented by Peter Bolland

Wednesday, June 25, from 2 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. us for a guided exploration of India’s most beloved sacred text, The Bhagavad Gita. Discover its timeless teachings on God, duty, ethics, war, society, consciousness, and the beauty of being alive. Through thoughtful discussion, we’ll uncover why this ancient text continues to inspire and influence people around the world. Line Dancing with Heather Leon

Tuesday, July 1, from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.  In this fun, 60-minute class, you will learn basic line dance steps and choreography. Beginner line dances include Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide, and Power Jam. Heather has over four decades of dance experience across many disciplines including jazz, ballet, modern, ballroom, country partner, and line dancing with a B.A. in modern dance choreography from UCLA. She is also a Pilates Master with 30 years’ experience. There is a $20 fee paid to the instructor.

Wednesday, July 2, from 10 a.m.- 11 a.m. A practical class on aging wisely and planning ahead. Future-proof your independence by staying in charge as you age. Plan smart with tools to help you navigate life’s next chapter. Avoid common pitfalls and make things easier for your loved ones. Prevent crisis by planning before it’s too late. Mariam Janan’s life journey fuels her mission at SD Assisted Living Advisors to help families and seniors approach aging with clarity, confidence, and dignity.

Paint with Alex

Wednesday, July 2, from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. All level painters are welcome to us in the studio with working artists and educator Alex Schaefer. Learn techniques to further your painting skills. Bring your own artwork and supplies (acrylic, oil, or watercolor) to work with Alex and fellow artists. There is a $20 fee per class paid to the instructor.

ONGOING CLASSES

Healthy Longevity Class

Monday (weekly) from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. Dr. Abraham Kim from Synaptic Integrated Medicine to explore health longevity practices incorporating qi gong, acupressure, and tai chi movements. This class will focus on techniques to enhance balance, coordination, energy, and long term neurological health and resilience.

Dr. Abraham will share insights from his expertise in integrated medicine in neurology and longevity practices, offering valuable tips on preventing aging health conditions and optimizing overall well-being. A $10 courtesy fee is requested per session per person.

Open Play Mah Jongg

Monday (weekly) from 10 a.m. – noon. Enjoy a friendly game of beginner American Mah Jongg, a tile-based game that is enjoyed by individuals throughout the world! A Basic understanding of the tiles and rules is required.

Texas Hold’em Poker Lessons for Beginners

Monday (weekly) from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. This beginner’s class is designed to teach the fundamentals of Texas Hold’em in a fun and engaging environment. Chips and cards are provided, and ongoing open poker play will be available for beginners. This class is ideal for absolute beginners with no prior poker experience. This class is full, please call 858-756-3041 to be added to the waitlist.

Calling All Chess Players!

Tuesday (weekly) – 2 p.m.-4 p.m. Come and enjoy a friendly game of chess at the Senior Center and get a workout for your brain! Research has found evidence that playing chess may result in improved brain function, memory, cognitive abilities, and strategic thinking. Each Tuesday, enjoy a friendly game of chess at the RSF Senior Center. All levels of players are welcome. Free instruction is provided for beginners. Tables and playing pieces are furnished.

Chair Yoga

Thursday (weekly) 10 a.m.-11 a.m. Peggie Moore, a certified yoga instructor, Reiki Master, and BEWELL Yoga for Cancer teacher, offers a weekly outdoor, in-person chair yoga class. This class will teach you techniques to improve core strength and balance, increase flexibility, and reduce stress. There is a $10 per person fee paid to the instructor. The first class is free.

Conversational Spanish

Friday (weekly) – Beginner/Intermediate Class 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. and Intermediate Class 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.  Jeannette Caruth learned Spanish solely through conversation and invites you to become more familiar with the language. Each class is a one- hour adventure of hearing and speaking another language. All levels are welcome. There is a $10 fee per class paid to the instructor.

UCSD is seeking participants for The Women’s Memory Study. You must be female, age 65 or older, and no formal diagnosis of dementia. Results from this study could help develop specialized therapies for both men and women at risk for Alzheimer’s. With study completion, participants will receive a $300 Visa Gift Card.
