Oceanside police are investigating what appears to be a fatal shooting that occurred late Saturday morning.
Officers were called to an area near Country Club Lane and Brooks Street about 11:15 a.m., officials said. They located the victim in a nearby canyon with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The man died at the scene, according to police.
The victim’s name is being withheld while investigators notify the man’s next of kin.
The case is active and ongoing, police said. It has been referred to the Crimes of Violence Unit of the Oceanside Police Department. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call Det. Zachary Knox at (760) 435-4333.
