The San Diego Humane Society and Rancho Coastal Humane Society in Encinitas will be among more than 150 animal shelters in California that will waive pet adoption fees on June 7 for adult dogs, cats, and rabbits (puppies and kittens not included), as part of the second annual California Adopt-a-Pet Day.
The event is hosted by the California Animal Welfare Association, San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The goal is 5,000 pet adoptions in one day.
The San Diego Humane Society will be open 10 a.m.to 7 p.m. June 7 and is extending its summer hours to 10 a.m.-7 p.m.on Saturdays and Sundays at all its campuses through Oct. 25, so the community has more flexibility to visit the shelter and meet adoptable pets. The animal shelter has more than 1,800 animals in its care, including more than 700 ready for adoption.
The campuses in El Cajon,1275 N. Marshall Ave.; Escondido, 3500 Burnet Drive; Oceanside, 2905 San Luis Rey Road and San Diego, 5500 Gaines St., are also open for adoptions from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday–Friday.
The Rancho Coastal Humane Society, 389 Requeza St., Encinitas will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 7 and is open for adoptions from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day except Tuesday. Rancho Coastal Humane Society expanded its summer hours, and will be open until 6 p.m. on Thursdays, with the final showing at 5:15 p.m.
