The Point Loma High School Pointers, fresh off a CIF San Diego Section Division I championship last weekend, continued their winning ways with a 6-4 road victory over El Camino Real of Woodland Hills in the opening round of the Southern California Regional Division II baseball tournament June 3.

Next up for sixth-seeded Point Loma is a semifinal matchup against No. 7 San Dimas at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 5. The winner will advance to the SoCal championship game two days later.

In the quarterfinal game against third-seeded El Camino Real, the Pointers took a 3-1 lead into the top of the seventh and final inning and added three runs to make it 6-1.

The Royals, however, rallied with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning, getting Pointers starting pitcher Phoenix Brant out of the game after 6 1/3 innings. But Hunter Weller came on to get the last two outs and preserve the win.

Among the hitting stars for the Pointers were Druw Frost, who went 3-for-4 with a run batted in, Dylan Upjohn, who was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Hunter Reddeg, who reached base in all four plate appearances with two hits, two walks and an RBI.
