
Father’s Day has been observed and celebrated for over 100 years in the U.S.
It became a national holiday in 1972 and is now observed annually on the third Sunday in June. This year in San Diego County, there are various ways to celebrate and honor dads on Father’s Day, which lands on June 15.
Some events are also on the weekend surrounding the holiday. Here are several ways to focus on father figures this month.
Car show: Belmont Park is hosting its 12th annual Father’s Day Car Show. This year’s family-friendly event will put over 100 classic cars on display and provide live music from The Farmers as well as food and drink specials and a special vintage Chevy Suburban, which has beers on tap. Cigar bar and putting green: El Chingon in the Gaslamp Quarter is transforming part of its Mexican restaurant and bar into a place for golf fans and cigar aficionados on Father’s Day. Dads can practice their short game on a putting green and try cigars via a pop-up vendor on the patio. Father’s Day brunch: An all-day brunch buffet awaits dads on Father’s Day at Brickmans inside the Lakehouse Resort in San Marcos. Some of the traditional breakfast items on the menu include buttermilk pancakes, bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs. There will also be a carving station with tri-tip, barbecue chicken, hot links and pork ribs. Other options include salmon, shrimp cocktail, Caesar salad, assorted pastries and desserts and for kids, mini cheeseburger sliders, chicken nuggets and waffle fries. The brunch buffet will cost $85 for adults and $25 for children under 10 years. Father’s Day dinner: Moe’s Steakhouse in Mission Beach is serving two steak and whiskey flight specials for Father’s Day. Onet is a $370 Japanese whiskey flight with Kaiyo The Ramu 8-year-old whiskey, Yamazaki 12-year single malt whiskey and Hibiki whiskey. The other choice is a $350 American whiskey flight with Michter’s American Whiskey, Heaven Hill Kentucky bourbon whiskey and W.L. Weller 12-year-old bourbon. Father’s Day on a boat: Take dad on a cruise around San Diego Bay for brunch or dinner: Flagship Cruises & Events is hosting two excursions. The brunch includes an omelet station, carving station, breakfast favorites such as French toast and waffles, a seafood station, dessert bar and unlimited nonalcoholic drinks. The sunset dinner cruise features a glass of champagne when boarding, a surf and turf pasta, a choice of chocolate mousse cake or vegan sorbet and a nonalcoholic beverage. Live music and cocktails: The night before Father’s Day, dads can listen to live music and get a custom-engraved bourbon bottle at Prohibition in downtown San Diego. Fiore Madrid, who has been a resident musician at Prohibition since 2021, will be performing. Her style of music is Americana, and she sings while playing the guitar. The custom bottle engraving is by Angel’s Envy Bourbon and it is priced at $55. Customers can purchase it on site or preorder it on Eventbrite. Oldies concert: The Quartyard is hosting an oldies concert that is fit for dads and grandpas. The Lovalot Group and DJ Kid Wonder will be playing a mix of old school soul, funk and classic rock and roll. El Comal will be selling Mexican food. U.S. Open watch party: Dads can watch the final round of the U.S. Open at a watch party at Barleymash. For 16 days, this restaurant with locations in Liberty Station and La Jolla is offering its Father’s Day Happy Meal for $20.
