The Solana Beach Library will be celebrating its 100th anniversary this year on Tuesday, June 10, from 2:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. the event in celebrating 100 years of stories, crafts, and community.
The event will include a dance performance by Grupo Jalisciense Folklórico; Ceremony speakers; Bluegrass music by Philly and the Cheesesteaks and music by Big Boss Bubeleh Band; Art talk with Mark Mennie; Local wildlife with San Diego County Parks and Recreation;SDCL Bookmobile; Community Art Project-Painting prompt: When I think of the library I think of….; Children’s bubble station; Air Brush tattoos/face painter; Children’s Crazy Hat craft; and a Library Timeline display.
From the first Solana Beach Library opening in 1925 at the grocery store of Ira Earl Conner on Highway 101 to the July 5, 2001 opening at its current location, 157 Stevens Ave., Solana Beach, celebrates 100 years of library services.
The complete history of the Solana Beach Library is available on the Friends of Solana Beach Library website at friendsofsolanabeachlibrary.org, according to a news release.
“The Solana Beach Library is excited to offer a great afternoon of celebration including music, dance, and art, as well as activities with our park rangers. There is something for every community member,” said Kathleen Sullivan-Long, Solana Beach Library branch manager, in the news release. “We are bringing the best of our programming to mark 100 years of library services in Solana Beach.”
“We couldn’t be happier with the plans for the 100th Anniversary Celebration,” stated Jennifer Eveleth, president, Friends of Solana Beach Library, in the news release. “We are so proud of the library and happy to the great programming and services the library offers every day. The 100th Anniversary Celebration is truly a day for all community to celebrate everything the Solana Beach Library has to offer.”
The Friends of Solana Beach Library will be providing ice cream and cookies from local businesses. In order to keep waste to a minimum for the event, it is kindly asked that guests bring their own water bottles.
