Del Norte High School sophomore Ruhi Sali will have her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year as the winner of California’s 50th Congressional District’s 2025 art competition.

Her entry was titled “Don’t Wake Me Up, I’d Rather Just Keep Dreaming.”

“The Congressional Art Competition encourages students to express their creativity and foster a lifelong love of the arts,” said Rep. Scott Peters. “Every year, I look forward to seeing what the talented young people in CA50 will create, and I enjoy showing off the winning piece to visitors in our Capitol.

“Thirty-seven students submitted impressive and beautiful pieces this year, and I know the of judges from San Diego’s arts community had a tough job selecting the winner,” Peters said. “Congratulations to the 2025 CA50 winner, Ruhi Sali, and thank you to every student who participated and grew their artistic talents.”

The finalists — who had to live within the 50th Congressional District — came from The Bishop’s School, Torrey Pines High School, Del Lago Academy, Francis Parker School, Canyon Crest Academy, Del Norte High School, San Pasqual High, Dan Li’s Art Studio, La Jolla High School and La Jolla Country Day School. All received a certificate from Peters and were invited to a reception held in the Pacific Beach/Taylor Library on May 10, which is when Sali was announced as the winner.

The Congressional Art Competition began in 1982. Since then, hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated in the nationwide competition.
