A new spot offering people a healthy dining choice is expected to arrive in One Paseo the first week of June. Jan’s Health Bar, a concept that has been around for more than 50 years in Southern California, is opening its fifth location in the Del Mar and Carmel Valley area and its first outside of Orange County. Jan’s “fresh, simple and nutritious” menu will include sandwiches, salads and smoothies.
Jan’s was founded in Huntington Beach in 1972 with a mission for better eating, making healthy food accessible and approachable for people. That approach has stayed consistent throughout the years, according to a news release.
“As we grow, we remain deeply intentional about where and how we expand,” said owner Poppy Holguin in a press release. “Del Mar represents everything we love about Southern California—a tight-knit, health-conscious community that values real food and a balanced lifestyle. We’re honored to bring Jan’s to San Diego and look forward to becoming part of the Del Mar neighborhood.”

Jan’s is taking over the space in plaza west at One Paseo, between Cava and Harland Brewing and close to the lawn that hosts events such as the movie night. The space, which will feature Jan’s signature aqua hue, was previously Parakeet Juicery.
The menu includes wholesome and simple items with fresh and locally-sourced ingredients. A couple of favorites are the Peanut Butter Banana Date smoothie and the Fresco Wrap, a spinach tortilla stuffed with turkey, fresh guacamole, black beans, avocado cilantro rice, white cheddar cheese, house-made chipotle crema and salsa verde. Jan’s Classic Salad is a bed of mixed greens topped with avocado, sunflower seeds, cucumbers, tomato, carrots, sprouts, mushrooms and a choice of protein. The cafe will serve breakfast options too, like avocado toast on artisan bread and overnight oats.
