The 2025 boys tennis seasons came to a close for Canyon Crest Academy and Torrey Pines High School on Friday afternoon. Playing in the Southern California Boys Regional Tennis Championships at the Claremont Club in Claremont, CAA fell to Palos Verdes Peninsula 5-2, and Torrey Pines dropped a 7-0 decision to Studio City Harvard Westlake.

Canyon Crest, the CIF San Diego Section Open Division champion, got a 6-2, 1-6, 6-1 win in singles from Aditya Khanna. Khanna beat a player whose Universal Tennis Rating was nearly one point higher than his.

Of Khanna, a sophomore, Canyon Crest coach Kevin Brown said: “I’m telling you, the kid can play.”

Khanna and Chasen Wang won the CIF San Diego Section doubles championship.

The Ravens’ No. 2 doubles team of Calvin Karlander and Julius Toda won their match 6-4, 6-2.

Irvine University won its first match on Friday 7-0. University, the reigning state champion, is heavily favored to repeat as Southern California champion.

Torrey Pines, which finished runner-up to CCA in the Open Division, and Canyon Crest have dominated the San Diego Section in recent years. Torrey won the first four Open titles, while CCA has earned the Open crown two of the past three years.

Friday’s play consisted of four singles and three doubles matches. Of the 10 players who competed for Canyon Crest on Friday, eight are underclassmen.

“We’ll be back,” said Brown.
