UPDATED:

A 50-year-old woman was struck and killed while crossing a street in Encanto on Wednesday morning, San Diego police said.

The collision happened just after 9:40 a.m. on Imperial Avenue at 63rd Street, Officer Jose Perales said.

The woman was crossing Imperial, headed south in the crosswalk, when she was struck by a 2018 Nissan Kicks, he said. The woman died at the scene.

The driver of the Nissan, a 49-year-old woman, was not injured in the collision. Perales said investigators suspect the motorist failed to stop at a red light.

“Detectives are still reviewing the evidence before making the final determination,” Perales said.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the collision, he said. The department’s Traffic Unit is handling the investigation.
