Authorities are searching for a hit-and-run driver whose vehicle allegedly struck and killed a motorcyclist in Lakeside on Sunday.
The crash happened around 1:10 a.m. on state Route 67 at Willow Road. The driver of a 1998 Mitsubishi SUV was going south and made a left turn on a solid red arrow, directly into the path of a Harley-Davidson motorcycle going north on a green light, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The front right side of the Mitsubishi collided with the bike, causing the rider to be ejected, the CHP said. The SUV then continued the turn and crashed into a traffic light, the CHP said.
The rider, a 31-year-old man from Poway, died at the scene. His name has not been released.
The SUV driver ran away from the wreckage.
The crash remains under investigation.
