CIF San Diego Section Division Track and Field Championships

When: 10 a.m. Saturday.

Where: Division 1 meet at Del Norte High School; Division 2 meet at University City High School; Division 3 meet at Valley Center High School.

Tickets: $10 for adults, $7 for students and seniors. Tickets must be purchased prior to the competition through GoFan.co.

Format: There will be three heats in most races and two flights in the field events based on qualifying performances from the league championships. There will be two heats in the 800, 1,600, 4×100 and 4×400 relays and one race in the 3,200 and 4×800 relay. The top two finishers in each event automatically advance to next week’s section championships. The next 12 finishers based on performance, regardless of division, also advance. Team champions will be crowned.

Division 1 preview: State-leading sisters Makenna Herbst (800) and Morgan Herbst (300 hurdles) of Carlsbad and Paige Echsner of Del Norte (pole vault) and Carlsbad’s section record-holding 4×400 relay team are entered.

Division 2 preview: Section record-setting/state leader Brandon Arrington of Mount Miguel is questionable to run the 100 after suffering a hamstring injury. San Diego’s brother-sister state-leading hurdle combo of Anisa Bowen-Fontenot (100H) and Jasir Fontenot (110H) top the field, as does co-state leader Kai Anderson (pole vault).

Division 3 preview: Smaller enrollment means little with state-leading athletes like Sage Creek’s Josiah Bowman (800) and La Jolla’s Chiara Dailey (1,600 and 3,200) topping this field.
