New breakfast menu: Mavericks Beach Club is introducing an intriguing new weekend brunch menu that includes bottomless mimosas among new breakfast-themed options. The lineup includes a Mavericks Monster Cinnamon Bun, which is made with vanilla cream cheese frosting, lox avocado toast served with smoked salmon and a fried egg, pancake tacos and a French toast with Fruity Pebbles cereal. Drag brunch: Former Miss Gay Universe J Lau Farrow Halston is hosting the North Park Drag Brunch at True North Tavern. The event will feature performances by Mole D’Vine, Leo the Virgo, Justine Thyme and Gianna B. Jordyn. Tequila and plants: Casa Gabriela’s annual Tequila & Succulents event returns to welcome plant lovers looking for a drink. Ticketed guests will experience tequila tasting from Olmeca Altos, including a welcome cocktail, and assorted appetizers from chef and partner Gabriela Lopez. Taste of East Village: More than 30 restaurants are taking part in the annual Taste of East Village. Food for a cause: May is National Foster Care Month and more than 40 local restaurants are partnering up with the nonprofit Promises2Kids for the seventh annual Foodies 4 Foster Kids. Participating restaurants are designating specials on food and drinks from which sales will go to Promises2Kids during May. Some of the businesses that are part of this monthlong fundraiser include Bivouac Ciderworks, Mister A’s, Sisters Pizza and Tamarindo Del Mar. Promises2Kids provides to foster children who have been “removed from their home due to abuse and neglect,” according to the organization. Now through May 31. promises2kids.org/foodies2025
Ice cream: Scoop San Diego has just announced its annual ice cream festival is returning for a seventh year. For the first time, celebrity chefs will the event for an ice cream competition. The event features over 30 vendors and ticketed guests can sample ice cream, gelato and Mexican-style paletas. There will also be activations and live music. Plus, 100% of net proceeds from the event are being donated to the nonprofit ProduceGood, according to Scoop San Diego. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22. 30th Street between University Avenue and Gunn Street. $50-$125. scoopsandiego.org
