UPDATED:

Kash Mayfield exited Tuesday’s start at low Single-A Lake Elsinore with shoulder discomfort.

The 20-year-old left-hander struck out the side in the first inning only to leave after one pitch in the second inning in a game the Storm lost 12-3 to visiting Fresno.

Mayfield has a 4.87 ERA through 20⅓ innings since beginning his pro career with the Storm last month.

The Padres selected Mayfield 25th overall last July. He is ranked No. 3 in the Padres organization by MLB.com.

Mayfield is day-to-day.

Right-hander Johan Moreno (0-3, 11.09 ERA) followed Mayfield and allowed eight runs—five earned—on four walks and five hits in 3⅔ innings in the loss.

Both shortstop Cobb Hightower (.782 OPS) and designated hitter Kavares Tears (.820 OPS) had three hits, with a double from Hightower serving as Lake Elsinore’s lone extra-base hit.

Lake Elsinore is 15-19.
