UPDATED:

One person was killed and two others injured when a motorcycle and SUV collided in the Casa de Oro-Mount Helix area in East County on Sunday night.

The collision was reported around 8 p.m. at the intersection of Explorer Road and Avocado Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The Ducati motorcycle was going north on Avocado when a southbound Ford Explorer tried to turn east onto Explorer, colliding head-on with the bike, the CHP said.

The rider, a 22-year-old man from El Cajon, was ejected from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of family.

His enger, a 20-year-old El Cajon woman, was also ejected and was taken to a hospital with major injuries. The Ford driver, a 40-year-old man from La Mesa, was hospitalized with minor injuries, authorities said.

Officials said it was not yet clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
