Torrey Pines High School Scholarship Fund held its 39th Awards Ceremony on May 5 at the TPHS Performing Arts Center. The event recognized 51 hard-working and accomplished TPHS seniors with $41,500 in total scholarship funds for their education beyond Torrey Pines.

In the 1980s, Sandy Parish, a parent volunteer at TPHS wanted to ensure that hard work and a desire for continued education would be rewarded and she ed together with her friend Susan Pfleeger to start this organization, a news release stated. To honor those students, they started the scholarship program now known as the Torrey Pines High School Scholarship Fund, which has awarded over $1.5 million, according to the news release.

The award money comes from donations from local businesses and charitable organizations, from individuals in the community, those who wish to establish memorial awards, from alumni and their families, and also from the foundation’s own fundraising activities, such as the sale of the popular graduation yard signs, and its custom ribbon leis.
