You can pitch at Coors Field.
Especially to this Rockies team.
Perhaps Stephen Kolek’s gem in a historic blowout win on Saturday is a road map of sorts as Nick Pivetta looks to conquer his own demons in the thin air in Denver in Sunday’s 12:10 p.m. start (Padres.TV).
Pivetta struck out a season-high 10 batters over seven shutout innings to beat the Rockies last month at Petco Park, but he has an 18.90 ERA in three starts (10 IP) in his career at Coors Field, including seven earned runs in 2⅔ innings last year. He has a 1.42 ERA in four starts this year at Petco Park and a 3.00 ERA in three road starts.
Here is how Pivetta has fared against current Rockies:
In search of their first three-game sweep at Coors Field since September 2011, the Padres were planning to send out their full strength lineup for a third straight game only to have to scratch center fielder Jackson Merrill with an illness.

That pushed Tyler Wade into center field and into the nine-hole behind catcher Elias Díaz and designated hitter Gavin Sheets up to the clean-up spot.
Sheets is fully enjoying his time so far at Coors Field, going 5-for-11 with three doubles, a homer and seven RBIs.
Fernando Tatis Jr., Manny Machado, Xander Bogaerts all got time off their first in each of the first two games this series as the offense ran away with each game.
Before the game, the Rockies transferred former USD star Kris Bryant (back) to the 60-day injured list and optioned right-handers Juan Mejia and Bradley Blalock to Triple-A Albuquerque, opening up spots for right-hander Anthony Molina and left-hander Ryan Rollison to bolster a pitching staff that has allowed 34 runs through the first two games of this series. That’s after throwing a doubleheader on Thursday.
The first line of defense on Sunday is right-hander Rockies RHP German Marquez (0-6, 9.90 ERA).
Yet his 33 earned runs allowed were the most in the majors to begin the weekend. That includes the Padres knocking him around for six runs — five earned — in 4⅔ innings earlier this month at Petco Park. The Rockies have lost all seven of his starts this season. Marquez is 10-4 with a 4.62 ERA in 103 career innings against the Padres.
