A new Five Below store that sells a variety of items priced mostly between $1 and $5 opened in Poway on May 9.
Merchandise includes candy and snacks, beauty supplies, tech devices and home decor. Customers can shop for a wide assortment of products in the categories of Style, Room, Sports, Tech, Create, Party, Candy and New & Now.
The store’s Party Shop features a variety of helium balloons, decor and party favors.
The store at the Poway City Centre, 13644 Poway Road, will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays.
Although most of the products cost $5 or less, the store also offers a selection of items priced above $5.
To celebrate the grand opening, the store hosted a weekend of kids’ activities, music and prizes.
The Philadelphia-based company, founded in 2002, has more than 1,800 stores in 44 states. The retailer offers trendy, high-quality products for people of all ages, particularly tweens, teens, store officials said.
“We believe life is better when customers are free to let go and have fun in an amazing experience filled with unlimited possibilities,” states a press release announcing the store opening.

Self-serve Genie Car Wash opens at Twin Peaks Plaza
The self-serve Genie Car Wash, at the site of a former full-service car washing operation, opened April 21 in Poway’s Twin Peaks Plaza.
Located near Target and Outback Steakhouse at 14713 Pomerado Road, the new Genie Car Wash took two years to convert, said Bianca Morris, marketing director for the company.
The drive-through express model provides customers with more convenience because it is quicker, less expensive and more efficient, Morris said.
“We are extremely excited and grateful to finally be open in Poway,” a co-owner of the family business said.
Three wash levels are available with options for waxes, sealants, wheel cleaning, tire dressing, and high-pressure rinses that are provided in state-of-the-art wash tunnels. Access to vacuum stalls and clean microfiber towels is included with each wash.
The business is offering free car washes for a limited time.
Individual car washes are priced at $12, $18, and $20 depending on the wash level desired. hips for multiple car washes are also available on a monthly basis, starting at $19.99 per month with optional upgraded hips priced at $26.99 per month or $29.99 per month.
Customers can sign up for the hips with a Genie team member at the pay stations near the entrance.
Genie Car Wash has 10 locations, including eight in the San Diego area and two in Tustin and Mesa, Ariz. The first express Genie Car Wash is in Rancho Penasquitos at 9821 Carmel Mountain Road. hips allow access at different locations.
