As summer nears, Pacific Beach’s slew of beachfront restaurants beckon families, college students and nine-to-fivers to sit back, relax and enjoy a meal.
In partnership with some of the local restaurants and bars, Discover PB is once again hosting the annual Coast of PB Restaurant Walk on from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, May 14.
At the event, ticket holders will receive a map that includes all participating restaurants and bars. Throughout the evening, foodies can enjoy samples from over 20 local favorites in Pacific Beach.
Discover PB Director Sunny Lee, who has been with the organization for four years, helped organize this year’s event.
“We want to get exposure for our local restaurants,” Lee said. “(This event is) making sure our community is aware of all the great places that we have to spend time and eat. There’s a lot of really delicious food in Pacific Beach.”
Participating restaurants, which are all located on Mission Boulevard and Garnett Avenue, include 710 Beach Club, barElla, Bare Back Grill, Duck Dive, Filippi’s Pizza Grotto PB, Handles Ice Cream, Hideaway, The Crack Shack PB, Mavericks Beach Club, Pacific Beach Ice Cream Co., PB Shore Club, Society PB and The Local PB.
Attendees can enjoy a variety of cuisine options, and selected locations will provide drink samples as well.
“I’m excited to try some of the food from Crack Shack, because I haven’t been able to make it in yet,” Lee said. “I’m looking forward to all of the new businesses participating, and I always have a good time going around (the event) because a lot of our board will be at their businesses and it’s nice to see them in their element and them.”
The Crack Shack, a Southern California staple, just opened a new location in Pacific Beach in March. To enjoy their fried chicken and other delicious food that will be featured at the restaurant walk, purchase tickets in person at the Pacific Beach Tuesday farmers’ market info booth, or online at the event’s page on pacificbeach.org.
Advance tickets cost $35 for food only and $45 for a ticket that includes food and drink samples.
Tickets are also available for purchase the day of the event outside of PB Shore Club, although prices for food-only and food and drink tickets will increase to $40 and $50 respectively.
Lee said tickets to the event will not sell out, but she recommends buying ahead of time to save money.
Another new restaurant that will be ing as a first-time participant is Hideaway, a beach bungalow-esque restaurant located a block away from the sandy shores of the Pacific Ocean. It opened in June of 2024.
“We’ve loved being in PB, it’s been a great turnout so far and we’re just glad the community has welcomed us,” said Dustbin Guthrie, Hideaway’s general manager.
“We’re just hoping to continue the success that we’ve already seen, and get more people to come into our restaurant from downtown, Encinitas and Oceanside — so we can expand beyond the PB and La Jolla area.”
According to Guthrie, Hideaway will be serving samples of pizza at the event. The restaurant has quickly become a local favorite, winning the Design Improvement business award at Discover PB’s Annual Casino Night Gala.
Money raised from ticket sales will be used to Discover PB’s work, which includes various events throughout the year like the PB Holiday Parade, as well as community outreach programs.
According to Lee, some of the money will go toward Discover PB’s trash pickup program.
“We partner with Shoreline Community Services, and the community care program that they have,” Lee said. “So that’s one of the programs that the proceeds from this event will be going toward.”
Shoreline Community Services “Community Care Crew” is a transitional employment program for unhoused individuals. In this program, individuals are able to work and earn their own income while receiving such as case management, career counseling and temporary workforce housing.
