UPDATED:

The man shot and killed Saturday by Chula Vista police during a standoff in Bonita was identified Thursday, as were the officers who fired their weapons.

Carlos Enriquez, 56, was shot by police who had responded to a home on Country Vistas Lane regarding a family disturbance allegedly involving a firearm, according to a release from the San Diego Police Department.

San Diego police are investigating the incident under a county policy that bars law enforcement agencies from investigating their own shootings.

Chula Vista police Officers Alfonso Perdomo, a seven-year department veteran, and Roman Buyson, a five-year veteran, and Agent Thomas Luhta, with the department 11 years, fired their weapons at Enriquez, officials said.

The incident began around 5:40 a.m. with the family disturbance report. When Chula Vista police arrived at the Bonita home, officers found family hiding outside, San Diego police said.

Enriquez allegedly exited the house with his hands in his pockets as officers commanded him to raise his hands in the air.

Enriquez removed his hands from his pockets and allegedly dropped a firearm on steps leading up to the home. He then put the gun on his lap and sat on the steps, San Diego police said.

He was shot with a beanbag round after repeated warnings, police said, causing him to fall back and drop the gun. Enriquez began to sit up and allegedly grabbed the gun and pointed it at officers, who fired their weapons, police said.

Enriquez was struck multiple times and transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Two handguns were recovered at the scene, including one allegedly from Enriquez’s waistband.

All three officers who fired their weapons had their body-worn cameras activated, San Diego police said.

The shooting remains under investigation and will be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.
