The body of a woman was found inside a Vista home, and a man was detained after an hours-long standoff with SWAT deputies Wednesday, sheriff’s officials said.
The identities of the deceased person and the detained man were not immediately released. No other injuries were reported.
The incident began about 10 a.m. when deputies were called to conduct a welfare check at a home on North Citrus Avenue near Nevada Avenue, sheriff’s Lt. Sean Gallagher said.
“Upon arrival, deputies made entry into the residence and found a deceased adult female with obvious signs of trauma,” a sheriff’s statement said. “Deputies conducted a safety sweep of the home and located a barricaded adult male inside a bedroom.”

SWAT team and negotiators were called to the scene around 11 a.m.
Over the next six hours, deputies attempted to negotiate with the man inside the house, Gallagher said. The suspect eventually left the home and was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m.
Footage captured by OnScene.TV shows SWAT deputies using a Bearcat armored vehicle to approach the home’s property line. Sheriff’s K-9 units and other technology were also at the scene.
Deputies in the footage are then seen moving down the side of the home with their guns drawn as the suspect walks out of the front door of the home holding what appears to be a cellphone and a printed image of some kind. He is wearing a helmet, and draped around his shoulders is a German Iron Cross flag.
After the man is taken to the ground and restrained, SWAT deputies enter the home.
No other information was immediately available.
“At this stage of the investigation, the motivation and circumstances of the crime are still under investigation,” a sheriff’s statement said. “Based on information gathered so far, this appears to be an isolated incident. There are no outstanding suspects and no apparent danger to the community.”
