Expect some “really benign weather” this week across San Diego County, but also unusually cool temperatures heading into next weekend, forecasters say.
Weak onshore flow will prevail all week, according to the National Weather Service.
That is expected to help the marine layer deepen, with low clouds each night and morning at the coast early this week, plus in the valleys later in the week.
Sea breeze winds will pick up most afternoons and evenings in the mountains and deserts, too, the weather service says.
The cooldown will begin in earnest on Wednesday, said meteorologist Sam Zuber in a Monday afternoon briefing.
“We’ll see temperatures about 5 degrees below normal, and then by Friday, pretty much everywhere is going to be between 5 and 15 degrees below normal,” she said.
Tuesday’s daytime highs are expected to hit 71 in Escondido, 74 in El Cajon and 66 in Mount Laguna. But on Friday, Escondido will only warm up to 66, El Cajon to 68 and Mount Laguna to just 55.
Near the coast, temperatures should remain relatively steady, topping out in the low to mid-60s all week from Oceanside to San Ysidro.
Ocean temperatures will be in the range of 58 to 61 degrees through Tuesday, the NWS says.
Just don’t expect more rain.
