Homicide detectives are investigating after a man in his 20s was fatally injured during an attack in Lemon Grove Tuesday night, sheriff’s officials said.
Deputies received a call of an assault with a deadly weapon in a parking lot on Broadway near Lemon Grove Avenue around 9:05 p.m., homicide Lt. Juan Márquez said.
Márquez said the man had suffered “traumatic injuries” but did not specify what kind of weapon or instrument was used against the victim.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he died. His name was not released, pending notification of his family.
Investigators said the motivation and circumstances behind the attack were unclear. Márquez said detectives believe the attacker and victim were acquaintances and that the killing was an isolated incident.
Detectives were interviewing witnesses and gathering more evidence as of Wednesday afternoon.
