UPDATED:

Carl Weise brings leadership experience in community association, large hotel and resort operations to his new job as the San Diego Country Estates Association general manager.

Before moving to Ramona and being hired at the Estates in February, Weise served as general manager at PGA WEST Master Association in La Quinta. He had previously held leadership positions at the Four Seasons at Terra Lago resort community in Indio and at La Costa Oaks master-planned community in North County.

In addition to his 16 years of experience as a large community homeowners association general manager, Weise has worked in the hospitality industry with a focus on full-service hotel properties and resorts.

“Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a consistent ability to drive operational excellence and financial improvement, foster community engagement, and build high-performing teams,” the San Diego Country Estates Association said in a statement.

Weise replaces Darren Shaw, who worked as the San Diego Country Estates/San Vicente Resort general manager from September 2021 to November 2024. Shaw is now the chief operating officer of the SaddleBrooke TWO master planned retirement community in Tucson, Ariz., according to his LinkedIn page.

Weise said the Estates Association offered him a “unique opportunity” that would be a good fit with his professional experience.

“I love San Diego County and am enjoying the natural surroundings of Ramona,” said the former Fallbrook resident, who has a bachelor’s degree in economics, management and ing.

In his new role, Weise is responsible for the oversight of the association’s residential and recreational operations as well as 160-plus employees. These duties include managing the golf course, restaurants, catered event venues, two equestrian centers, parks, trails, pools, racket sports courts and a wide variety of recreational programs.

Weise will also handle budget oversight, capital project planning, and ensuring that services align with the long-term vision of the board of directors.

His priorities include enhancing all aspects of the association’s operations to provide a “great experience to our homeowners and guests,” he said.

“I also want to increase the Estates’ positive impact to the greater Ramona area,” Weise wrote in an email. “Ultimately, we want to do more with and for Ramona. I’d like to continue our of local events and businesses, and be great neighbors and citizens.”

Weise has introduced initiatives to strengthen communication and community connection, association officials said. His weekly GM Updates in the association’s Valley News offer insights into key operational areas. His new “Coffee with Carl” program, launched with introductory sessions on April 4 and 5, gives residents a relaxed, informal setting to share input and ask questions directly, officials said.

Weise has certifications as a Community Association Manager, Manager of Community Associations, and Association Management Executive. He also helps to guide industry standards and practices across the state by serving on the board of the California Association of Community Managers, officials said.

In his downtime, the father of two adult sons enjoys cooking, participating in chili competitions, traveling and fly fishing.

“Ramona is a unique rural spot in San Diego County with amazing views, public land and dark skies,” he said.
