The Sage Canyon Elementary PTA partnered with local boutique theatre company Junior Actors Company to stage a wacky and whimsical production of “Alice in Wonderland Junior.” It was the school’s first musical, showcasing the talents of 40 young students.
Danielle Koelbl, a member of the Sage Canyon PTA’s executive board, said the PTA had been looking for a “team” opportunity for students who enjoyed the arts, similar to Science Olympiad or Run Club.
“The PTA chose to work with Junior Actors Company because they offered our first-time actors ensemble parts that allowed them to find their voice through confidence-building team-based songs and choreography, while allowing students with experience specialty and leadership roles throughout the production.”
The students rehearsed together for 11 weeks and put on three sold-out shows, with nearly 600 Sage Canyon community packing the audience. The students’ third and final performance earned a standing ovation. Koelbl said with the outpouring of student gratitude and the rave reviews from parents and teachers, the PTA is looking forward to continuing the theater program.
