An Oceanside police officer who had completed an assignment on Vice President JD Vance’s detail was transported to the hospital Monday after being involved in a collision.

The incident was reported around 9:45 a.m. on state Route 76 near the onramp to northbound Interstate 5.

“The officer had just cleared a detail and was traveling to OPD when the collision occurred,” Oceanside police said in a release.

The officer sustained injuries that were not life-threatening and was transported to a hospital by ambulance.

The driver of the other vehicle involved in the incident remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Vance, whose wife grew up in San Diego, attended a wedding in Oceanside over the weekend.
