UPDATED:

To the untrained eye, San Diego FC’s new secondary jerseys look white.

The Major League Soccer expansion franchise views it this way:

“SDFC’s first-ever Community Kit is a blank canvas for the people of San Diego,” the team said in a news release sent Friday. “Anchored in the club’s mantra – ‘Woven Into One’ – it invites fans and ers to come together and imagine the future of the club.”

Indeed, there’s still very much unknown about San Diego FC, which will play its first-ever regular-season match Feb. 23 against the Los Angeles Galaxy in Carson before hosting its home opener March 1 at Snapdragon Stadium. The roster has been practicing together for a month. Everyone, from the general manager and coach to the last player off the bench, is new to San Diego. There’s no telling what thrills and disappointments await the club and its ers during SDFC’s inaugural season.

Add San Diego FC’s uniforms to a growing list of knowns. The team’s primary jersey is navy blue — the team calls it “azul” — with a silver DirecTV logo and multi-colored crest on the front and silver names and numbers on the back.

The secondary jersey revealed Friday includes a navy DirecTV logo and team crest on the front and names and numbers rendered in the same color on the back. The jersey contains what the team calls “a subtle flow-like pattern” that resembles both a tapestry and fingerprints. Light blue accents on the sides and collar “nod to San Diego’s expansive skies and ocean.” The number 18 located at the bottom of the jersey represents the 18 San Diego neighborhoods that have been the centerpiece of the club’s outreach and marketing efforts over the last year.

The new jerseys are available at the Eighteen Threads team shop in the Mission Valley mall or at MLSStore.com.

Final scrimmage set

San Diego FC will play its final preseason scrimmage on Saturday, when it takes on the New York Red Bulls at the Empire Polo Club in Indio as part of the Coachella Valley Invitational. The match starts at 10 a.m. and will be streamed on SDFC’s mobile app.

San Diego lost its first two matches in Indio by a combined score of 6-1. Paddy McNair has scored the club’s lone goal in exhibition play, netting a 19th-minute header in last Saturday’s 3-1 loss to New York City FC.
