Suspect arrested after ‘erratic’ driving, police say

A man was arrested with the use of a Taser in La Jolla over the weekend after “erratic” driving and behavior, according to San Diego police.

Around 11 a.m. Feb. 8, police responded to a report that a resident had followed the suspect’s vehicle to the corner of Eads Avenue and Pearl Street in The Village and that the suspect, described as a man in his 30s, “had several near-crashes and was acting erratic,” police Lt. Bryan Brecht said.

“The suspect exited his vehicle and was reported to have been dancing in the street and yelling at ersby,” Brecht said. “The suspect was still outside of his vehicle when [an] officer arrived. The officer tried to detain the suspect, he pulled away from the officer and attempted to get back into his vehicle. He began fighting with the officer and was ultimately Tased by the officer. There were no injuries to the officer.”

The suspect was arrested without further incident and taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for evaluation before being booked into jail on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, police said.

Rape reported in The Village

An investigation is underway into a report of a rape in La Jolla’s Village, though San Diego police said there is no threat to the general public.

The incident was reported around 8:30 p.m. Jan. 28 in the 1000 block of Wall Street.

“The victim and suspect know each other and there is no threat to the public,” according to Lt. Dan Sayasane of the Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit. “It is an active investigation, so I cannot provide any other details.”
