Del Mar Rose Society to hold “Roses Around the World” presentation

Del Mar Rose Society will host guest speaker John Bagnasco from the radio show “Garden America” and chairman of the California Coastal Rose Society.

Bagnasco will discuss “Roses Around the World,” the universal proposition of saving rose varieties in the 21st century. Jurassic Quest coming to Fairgrounds

Life-size dinosaurs like those from millions of years ago will be at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd., Jan. 17-20 as part of Jurassic Quest’s cross-country tour. The traveling dinosaur show includes animatronic dinosaurs ranging from Apatosaurus to Tyrannosaurus rex, recreated by paleontologists. Visitors can walk through millions of years of dinosaur history. Kids can climb on one of the life-like prehistoric creatures and take a ride. Highlights include fossil digs and dino crafts along with dinosaur-themed bounce houses, games and “Tricera-tots” soft play area. Farmers Insurance Open

One of the first major men’s professional golf tournaments of the year takes place annually in San Diego. The Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines Golf Course is a four-day event. Batiquitos Lagoon will hold a nature walk on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. to learn about the variety of birds on their winter migration, visiting the lagoon from November to March. Village Church to present free festival “To the Faith We Sing”

The Village Church welcomes everyone to “The Faith We Sing,” a free festival of hymns with brass and organ on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary at 6225 Paseo Delicias in Rancho Santa Fe. in the singing of beloved hymns and anthems with guest choir conductor and organist Charles Frost. The 43rd annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade starts at 11 a.m. Jan. 19 and heads on Harbor Drive south from Ash Street to Pacific Street. Speech Trek open to high school students

The Poway-Peñasquitos Branch of the American Association of University Women holds its annual Speech Trek competition for high school students. Participants create a 5- to 6-minute speech on a topic chosen by AAUW, and deliver it on Feb. 8 to a of local judges.
