A pedestrian walking in lanes of traffic on Interstate 5 near the San Diego International Airport was struck and killed Saturday night, California Highway Patrol officers said.
The crash was reported around 8:05 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near Sassafras Street in the Middletown neighborhood, Officer Stephany Perez said.
The man died before he could be taken to a hospital, Perez said. His name was not released on Monday.
The 39-year-old driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee involved in the crash stayed at the scene and spoke with investigators.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
