Man killed in Southcrest alley shootout identified

Manual Correa was killed in a shootout after an argument with a group of people near a parking garage on National Avenue near 37th Street

PUBLISHED:

A man gunned down during an argument in a Southcrest alley last week has been identified by San Diego police as a 46-year-old man who lived near the scene of the shooting.

Police said Manual Correa was killed on National Avenue near 37th Street shortly before midnight on Nov. 27, San Diego police homicide Lt. Jud Campbell said in a news release.

Investigators believe Correa got into an argument with a group of people, and then both Correa and another gunman pulled out handguns, Campbell said. They exchanged gunfire.

Campbell said Correa was struck, and he died before paramedics could take him to the hospital.

Police do not know if the other gunman was hit.

Investigators said the gunman left with the group in a white Lexus before officers arrived.

On Wednesday, the car was tracked down via the automated license plate reader system to a neighborhood in Ridgeview/Webster and found parked in the driveway of a home on 49th Street near Federal Boulevard.

Several people inside were detained, and the Lexus was impounded as evidence during a search of the property around 10:40 a.m., Campbell said.

One of the detained men was arrested on firearms and narcotics charges but is not believed to be a suspect in Correa’s death, police said.

Investigators asked anyone with information about the shooting to call the homicide unit at 619-531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
