Fight for 30-foot coastal height limit
The fight is on. We had a 30-foot height limit and now it has changed? The city and the state have decided to have high-rises on our coast.
They cannot maintain our streets, we have no parking because of the restaurants and the city continues to have the motto “Pack ’em in. More ADUs [accessory dwelling units] and less single-family residence.”

La Jolla has an estimated 800 short-term vacation rentals. Have they swallowed our voting citizen? We will live in a very high-density town and the city will succeed in developing the coast.
Sign the petition to remove La Jolla from the city and fight for our 30-foot height limit. Show you love your town and vote for her.

Make the holidays a season of kindness
As we approach another holiday season, I believe it’s important to keep in mind that there are lots of varied feelings showing up for everyone around this time of year. It can be a time of true joy and excitement for some and absolute dread and multi-layered sadness for others.
Many of us have lost loved ones in our lives, and those feelings of loss tend to intensify now. I want to encourage us as a collective of very blessed La Jolla residents to extend a little extra kindness and comion to our friends, family and neighbors over the remaining weeks of 2024.
The smallest gesture in a smile or a few kind words can have a big impact on the expansion of our hearts and minds. As this expansion happens, peace in our individual worlds as well as our community grows.
La Jolla has a very special shine, and each of us plays a part in its brightness.

Bring light to problems
Regarding the opinion “UCSD protests over Gaza seemed to be selective outrage” (Our Readers Write, La Jolla Light, Nov. 14):
Two things can be true at once, and just because other conflicts aren’t getting as much attention does not make what Israel is doing in Palestine and neighboring countries acceptable.
That being said, there is an overall lack of awareness of problems going on around the world, and I would encourage those who feel strongly about this to use their energy and well-meaning to bring light to them.
As Maya Angelou said, “What you’re supposed to do when you don’t like a thing is change it. If you can’t change it, change the way you think about it. Don’t complain.”
