It was good week for La Jolla football teams as La Jolla High and La Jolla Country Day schools recovered from defeats in their previous games to post victories Sept. 20.

La Jolla High 38, Mission Bay 7

After suffering their first loss of the season the week before against Rancho Bernardo, the Vikings stayed unbeaten at home as they opened Eastern League play with a rout of the Mission Bay Buccaneers (1-4).

La Jolla ran back the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown and rushed for 220 yards.

The Vikings (4-1) next play at undefeated Scripps Ranch (4-0) at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4.

La Jolla Country Day 42, Escondido Charter 13

The Torreys broke a two-game losing streak and improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory over the White Tigers (0-4).

Country Day quarterback Jett Astephen completed 17 of 22 es for 242 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Vince Moore finished the game and completed both of his es for 36 yards and a TD.

Quentin Cesaire had two touchdown receptions and Ekin Matanza and Hesh Hertz had one apiece.

Next up for Country Day is a road game against Santa Fe Christian (currently 3-1) at 3 p.m. Oct. 4.

The Bishop’s School

The Knights (1-2) had a bye and will next play on the road against Army-Navy Academy (4-0) at 7 p.m. Sept. 27. ♦
