The weather will be hot and sticky Wednesday when Comic-Con gets under way in downtown San Diego. But temperatures will become cooler going into the weekend, and a soothing sea breeze is likely to kick in, the National Weather Service says.
The convention’s first events will begin Wednesday afternoon, when the temperature is expected to reach 80 degrees. Thursday will be just as hot. Friday will top out at 77, and Saturday and Sunday will be in the 75-to-76-degree range, which is average for this time of year.
The 130,000 people projected to attend the convention will be able to find a bit of relief by walking along the edge of San Diego Bay, where light breezes are common on summer nights. It will be even cooler on the ferry that brings engers between the downtown area and North Island, which is more exposed to the wind.
Forecasters say the summer monsoon could spark lightning across inland San Diego County late in the week. But it won’t be strong enough to send lots of humid air to the coast.
People strolling along the boardwalk at night will have two good opportunities to watch the International Space Station fly overhead.
At 9:46 p.m. Friday, the station will be visible for three minutes. It will initially appear 10 degrees above the northwest horizon. And at 8:58 p.m. Saturday, the station will be visible for four minutes. It will initially appear 10 degrees above the north-northwest horizon. Binoculars are not needed.
