Rancho Santa Fe Little League (RSFLL) Intermediate baseball team won the California District 31 Little League Silver Division Championship title after defeating Escondido National Little League Padres 12-0 on May 30, according to a news release.
The game was almost a complete no-hitter for Rancho Santa Fe Little League lead pitcher Louie Rosso. The opponent only got on base hit once on error in the final inning. Rosso pitched the entire game for Rancho Santa Fe Little League efficiently with a low pitch count in the sixties that was less than the combined 109 pitches made by three different Escondido National Padres players. Rosso struck out four batters with RSFLL catchers Noah Holyoak and Soren Glomsrud.
Rancho Santa Fe Little League’s offensive game was powerful. In the first inning lead batter Rosso set the pace with a triple play and then a steal home. Additional runs were scored by players Greyden Speer, Cole Hamilton, Holyoak, and Glomsrud. The highlight of the second inning was a triple play hit deep into the outfield by Hamiton followed by a steal to home. Additional runs were scored by Rosso and Holyoak in the second inning. RSFLL player Jack Curry along with Speer, Holyoak, and Hamilton scored runs for RSFLL in the fourth inning. The game ended just after four and a half innings due to the Little League mercy rule that stipulates that if the winning team is ahead by at least 10 runs after four innings, the losing team must concede the victory to the opponent.
“The boys really gelled together during the season, and it not only resulted an undefeated playoff record, but also us winning the 2024 California District 31 Intermediate Silver Division Championship game with a 12-0 shutout,” said Rancho Santa Fe Little League head coach Patrick Speer in the news release.
