CIF San Diego Section Girls Lacrosse Championships

Division 1: (1) Carlsbad (17-4) vs. (2) Del Norte (14-6)
When: 7 p.m. Saturday
Preview: Looking for its first section title, Carlsbad avenged a 2023 championship loss to Bishop’s by beating the Knights 12-3 in Tuesday’s semifinals. The Lancers defeated Del Norte 13-8 this season as well as winning 12-11 in overtime in the semifinals last year. “I’m sure they’ll be coming at us,” coach James Magill said. The coach’s daughter, Lisa Magill, leads the team in scoring and is committed to Towson University. Attacker Clara Devlin (Cal) and goalkeeper Lauren Lorentzen (UMass-Lowell) are also standout players. Del Norte coach Jose Soto counters with Dominican University commit Kyra Evans (leads in draws) and junior standout Elise Cardall (99 goals). Defensive captains are junior Audrey Atarri and sophomore Anasofia Orozco (only 28 turnovers). The Nighthawks won section titles in 2018 and 2013.
Division 3: (1) Castle Park (14-9) vs. (3) San Ysidro (16-8)
When: 11 a.m. Saturday
Preview: San Ysidro lost to El Capitan 6-2 in last year’s Division 3 final, and neither team has won a section championship. Castle Park defeated San Ysidro twice in league, 8-6 and 8-5. The Trojans’ leading scorers are sophomore Leilani Roche (103 goals), junior Lali Ramirez (49) and senior Princess Tacla (21), who is committed to Mount Mercy University. Goalie Vicky Trujillo has a 6.8 GAA and .549 save percentage. The Cougars upset second-seeded Rancho Buena Vista 8-6 to return to the finals. San Ysidro has exceptional midfield captains in Jaqueline Gonzalez, Evelyn Ramirez Estrada and Amaya Moreno to go with attacker Fatima Rosales.
Division 2: (5) Canyon Crest (10-10) vs. (2) Fallbrook (17-4)
When: 2 p.m. Saturday
Preview: In just her fifth season, coach Debbie Berg has lifted Fallbrook from the bottom to its first section finals. The Warriors defeated Canyon Crest twice in league play, 14-12 and 14-10. They are led by sisters Shea (CSUSM) and sophomore Ash Morgan, Jasmine Uresti (George Fox University) and goalie Myah Pack (CSUSM). Shea Morgan has 200-plus goals in three seasons. Seeking its second section title, Canyon Crest upset No. 4 Point Loma 12-9 and No. 1 University City 12-8.
Open Division: (1) Torrey Pines (16-4) vs. (2) Coronado (15-3)
When: 5 p.m. Saturday.
Preview: Coached by Kaitlin Doucette, a former national champion at Virginia, Torrey Pines is seeking a record seventh section title. The defending champion Falcons are led by 2023 player of the year Laurel Gonzalez (Johns Hopkins). Gonzalez (56 goals, 26 assists) topped 200 goals and 100 assists in her career. She had five goals, four assists and a school-record 20 draws in the semifinals. Sydney Stewart (USC) leads the team with 66 goals and 31 assists. Alina Hsu (47-16) and Bryant Tatum (36-16) can also find the net. Skye Davis (Villanova) and Camille Samarasinghe (122 saves) mind the defense. Coronado coach Caroline Dineen-Carlson counters with the Dunn sisters — sophomore Sydney (62 goals, 29 assists) and freshman Breck (62-26). Senior Lauren Hundley (50 points) and sophomores Grace Elardo (39) and Brooklyn Parma are standouts. Coronado’s only loss to a San Diego County team came against Torrey Pines, 16-12.
