Caltrans District 11 held a ceremony Tuesday at the district’s courtyard on Taylor Street in Old Town to pay tribute to highway workers who have died in the line of service. The event was also to remind motorists to avoid distracted driving, and to protect highway workers in construction and maintenance zones. Caltrans says that California has seen an increasing number of fatalities and serious injuries of highway workers since 2010. Officials say that 18 from District 11 have been killed while on the job.
