Rocker Bret Michaels will perform after the San Diego Seals play the Las Vegas Desert Dogs at Pechanga Arena Saturday as part of Military Appreciation Night.

The former Poison frontman, who recently celebrated his 61st birthday, has long been a big-time lacrosse fan.

And that ion runs in the family.

Michaels’ daughter, Raine, works for the Seals as a sideline reporter and Michaels credits watching Raine and daughter Jorja play the sport as high school students for further sparking his interest.

“I’ve always been a fan, but my next-level interest came when my daughters started playing,” said Michaels, who last performed in San Diego at Petco Park in 2022. “Not to mention it is one of the most physical sports I’ve ever seen and I am a true music, rock-and-jock sports fanatic. The skills on the field are a combination of hockey, baseball, basketball, football and an MMA fight breaking out in the middle of every game.”

The Seals (10-4) enter Saturday’s 7 p.m. game in second place in the National Lacrosse League standings. They have won four of their last five games and are coming off a 7-6 away victory over Calgary.

San Diego closes the regular season by playing three of its final four games at Pechanga Arena, which has provided one of the best gameday atmosphere’s in the NLL.

“Growing up on the East Coast and touring Canada, the sport of lacrosse has always had a very loyal following and I’m excited to see the way the amazing city of San Diego has embraced the NLL,” Michaels said. “It is truly like a party when you go to the games, with a highly-energized fanbase, the incredible Sirens Dance Team and great music pumping …The sport of lacrosse is catching on big time because of the athletes and the San Diego Seals are ionate, talented and committed to winning.”

Gulls cap a busy week

The San Diego Gulls continue a busy stretch by hosting the Texas Stars on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Calgary Wranglers on Sunday at 5 p.m.

The Gulls (22-27-8) are coming off a 6-4 loss at San Jose on Wednesday.

On Thursday, the team announced that 20-year old goaltender Tomas Suchanek signed a three-year entry level contract that kicks in at the start of next season.

Suchanek has been a bright spot with a 12-6-3 record and a 2.56 goals against average with a .919 save percentage.

Legion hit the road

The San Diego Legion will look to improve to 3-1 in the early portion of the Major League Rugby season when they visit Old Glory DC on Saturday. The game starts at 1 p.m. PDT.

The Legion opened their home slate with a 19-18 win over RFC Los Angeles at Snapdragon Stadium last Saturday.

Sockers play twice

The playoff-bound San Diego Sockers visit the Milwaukee Wave on Friday night, then visit the Kansas City Comets on Saturday evening before playing their final regular-season home match at Pechanga on March 30.

The first-place Sockers (17-4, 49 points) are already locked into a MASL Western Conference playoff matchup with the Texas Outlaws.

The first game will be played April 6 at Texas, with the return match — and series-deciding mini-game, if necessary — set for April 8 at Pechanga.

The Sockers are moving to Oceanside’s Frontwave Arena following the season.

Mojo head to Vegas

The San Diego Mojo (2-6) will hit the road Sunday, playing the Vegas Thrill at 4 p.m. at Dollar Loan Center.

The first-year indoor women’s volleyball team hasn’t played since March 11, when it lost to the Orlando Valkyries in five games at Viejas Arena. Temi Thomas-Ailara led the Mojo with 20 kills, while Ronika Stone added 15.
