Getting to Great Britain just got a little easier because next year British Airways is adding another nonstop flight between San Diego and London.
Travelers flying between San Diego International Airport and London Heathrow Airport will have a second nonstop daily flight to choose from come April 20. Currently, there is one nonstop flight per day between the major cities that has operated since June 2011.
“Leisure and business travelers from San Diego will have added opportunities to explore London and beyond while giving travelers from the rest of the world increased access to San Diego’s beautiful beaches and year-round sunny climate,” said Kimberly Becker, CEO of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority.
The timing of the current flights will be adjusted to arrive in San Diego from London at 6:10 p.m. and departing San Diego for London at 8 p.m. The new flight — which will operate on a 272-seat Boeing 777-200 aircraft — will arrive in San Diego at 3:25 p.m. and depart for London at 5:15 p.m.
The additional flight will increase the amount of seats to London by 47 percent over summer 2023 levels.
“This new frequency will offer more options and convenience for our customers and is a welcome addition to our California schedule,” said Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ director of Networks and Alliances.
London Heathrow is one of the busiest airports in the world and provides travelers an outlet to other major destinations in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. London is also one of the most popular European destinations — alongside Munich and Paris — from San Diego.
The number of engers going between San Diego and London is 28 percent higher than it was in 2019, according to the San Diego Airport Authority. The region’s travel sector has had a strong recovery from the pandemic, with enger levels between San Diego and Europe exceeding 2019.
Just last week, Lufthansa Airlines announced that it is expanding its nonstop service between San Diego and to meet the increased demand for European travel.
