Which teams fared the best this past weekend in Kansas City and which teams missed an opportunity to get better? Here are my draft grades:
AFC WEST
Denver
Grade: B-
Draft picks: Round 2 (63 overall) Marvin Mims, WR, Oklahoma; 3 (67) Drew Sanders, LB, Arkansas; 3 (83) Riley Moss, CB, Iowa; 6 (183) JL Skinner, S, Boise State; 7 (257) Alex Forsyth, C, Oregon.
Notable undrafted free agents: Thomas Incoom, Edge, Central Michigan.
The lowdown: The trade for Russell Wilson kept the Broncos from picking in the first round. The selection of Mims makes me think GM George Paton will deal Jerry Jeudy in the coming months. Sanders and Skinner are both versatile chess pieces on defense.
Kansas City
Grade: B+
Draft picks: 1 (31) Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE, Kansas State; 2 (55) Rashee Rice, WR, SMU; 3 (92) Wanya Morris, OT, Oklahoma; 4 (119) Chamarri Conner, S, Virginia Tech; 5 (166) BJ Thompson, OLB, Stephen F. Austin; 6 (194) Keondre Coburn, DT, Texas; 7 (250) Nic Jones, CB, Ball State.
Notable undrafted free agents: Truman Jones, Edge, Harvard; Cam Jones, LB, Indiana; Deneric Prince, RB, Tulsa.
The lowdown: Another solid effort by the champs and GM Brett Veach, addressing both major needs (a mediocre rush and receiver).
L.A. Chargers
Grade: B
Draft picks: 1 (21) Quentin Johnston, WR, TCU; 2 (54) Tuli Tuipulotu, DE, USC; 3 (85) Daiyan Henley, LB, Washington State; 4 (125) Derius Davis, WR, TCU; 5 (156) Jordan McFadden, OG, Clemson; 6 (200) Scott Matlock, DT, Boise State; 7 (239) Max Duggan, QB, TCU.
Notable undrafted free agents: Jerrod Clark, DL, Coastal Carolina.
The lowdown: Solid effort overall, but my one criticism is taking TCU’s Davis, who I consider more of a gadget player, while Cincinnati’s Tyler Scott was still available.
Las Vegas
Grade: B
Draft picks: 1 (7) Tyree Wilson, DE, Texas Tech; 2 (35) Michael Mayer, TE, Notre Dame; 3 (70) Byron Young, DL, Alabama; 3 (100) Tre Tucker, WR, Cincinnati; 4 (104) Jakorian Bennett, CB, Maryland; 4 (135) Aidan O’Connell, QB, Purdue; 5 (170) Christopher Smith, S, Georgia; 6 (203) Amari Burney, OLB, Florida; 6 (231) Nesta Jade Silvera, DT, Arizona State.
Notable undrafted free agents: None.
The lowdown: The Raiders were able to land the No. 9 (Wilson) and No. 14 (Mayer) players on my Big Board with their first two picks. Maryland’s Bennett and Georgia’s Smith were both solid values in the secondary on Day 3.
AFC EAST
Buffalo
Grade: A-
Draft picks: 1 (25) Dalton Kincaid, TE, Utah; 2 (59) O’Cyrus Torrance, OL, Florida; 3 (91) Dorian Williams, LB, Tulane; 5 (150) Justin Shorter, WR, Florida; 7 (230) Nick Broeker, OG, Ole Miss; 7 (252) Alex Austin, CB, Oregon State.
Notable undrafted free agents: Richard Gouraige, OL, Florida; DJ Dale, DL, Alabama.
The lowdown: Kincaid gives Josh Allen another weapon to work with. I would’ve been fine with the Bills selecting Torrance in the first round — he’s a theft at the back-end of the second — and Williams could fill a gaping hole in the middle of Buffalo’s defense created by the loss of Tremaine Edmunds in free agency.
Miami
Grade: C+
Draft picks: 2 (51) Cam Smith, CB, South Carolina; 3 (84) Devon Achane, RB, Texas A&M; 6 (197) Elijah Higgins, TE, Stanford; 7 (238) Ryan Hayes, OT, Michigan.
Notable undrafted free agents: Aubrey Miller, LB, Jackson State.
The lowdown: The Dolphins were missing more picks because of previous trades and a forfeiture, but Smith is another big, physical, aggressive corner to combine with Jalen Ramsey and Xavien Howard. I’m excited to see Achane in Mike McDaniels’ zone-blocking scheme. GM Chris Grier failed to address tight end in a serious way.
New England
Grade: A
Draft picks: 1 (17) Christian Gonzalez, CB, Oregon; 2 (46) Keion White, DE, Georgia Tech; 3 (76) Marte Mapu, LB/S, Sacramento State; 4 (107) Jake Andrews, C, Troy; 4 (112) Chad Ryland, PK, Maryland; 4 (117) Sidy Sow, OG, Eastern Michigan; 5 (144) Atonio Mafi, OG, UCLA; 6 (187) Kayshon Boutte, WR, LSU; 6 (192) Bryce Baringer, P, Michigan State; 6 (210) Demario Douglas, WR, Liberty; 6 (214) Ameer Speed, CB, Michigan State; 7 (245) Isaiah Bolden, DB, Jackson State University.
Notable undrafted free agents: Malik Cunningham, QB, Louisville.
The lowdown: Trading down and still landing Gonzalez was a vintage move by the Patriots. The White and Mapu picks were on brand as well. Bill Belichick fortified the offensive line on Day 3, but waited too long to address other offensive needs. New England is only the second team in the past 30 years to select a kicker and punter in the same draft. The other team was the 2000 Raiders.
N.Y. Jets
Grade: B
Draft picks: 1 (15) Will McDonald, EDGE, Iowa State; 2 (43) Joe Tippman, C, Wisconsin; 4 (120) Carter Warren, OT, Pittsburgh; 5 (143) Israel Abanikanda, RB, Pittsburgh; 6 (184) Zaire Barnes, OLB, Western Michigan; 6 (204) Jarrick Bernard-Converse, CB, LSU; 7 (220) Zach Kuntz, TE, Old Dominion.
Notable undrafted free agents: Trey Dean, S, Florida.
The lowdown: Swapping first-round picks with the Packers as part of the trade for Aaron Rodgers cost the Jets a top-tier offensive tackle prospect, as the Steelers traded up in front of them to land Broderick Jones at No. 14. That’s the price you pay for a future Hall of Fame quarterback.
AFC NORTH
Baltimore
Grade: B
Draft picks: 1 (22) Zay Flowers, WR, Boston College; 3 (86) Trenton Simpson, LB, Clemson; 4 (124) Tavius Robinson, OLB, Ole Miss; 5 (157) Kyu Blu Kelly, CB, Stanford; 6 (199) Malaesala Aumave-Laulu, OT, Oregon; 7 (229) Andrew Vorhees, OG, USC.
Notable undrafted free agents: Keaton Mitchell, RB, East Carolina.
The lowdown: All of a sudden, Lamar Jackson has a plethora of weapons with the additions of Flowers and Odell Beckham Jr. Clemson’s Simpson is a Swiss Army Knife. Pac-12 standouts Kelly and Vorhees are the type of prospects the Ravens usually hit on.
Cincinnati
Grade: B+
Draft picks: 1 (28) Myles Murphy, EDGE, Clemson; 2 (60) DJ Turner, CB, Michigan; 3 (95) Jordan Battle, S, Alabama; 4 (131) Charlie Jones, WR, Purdue; 5 (163) Chase Brown, RB, Illinois; 6 (206) Andrei Iosivas, WR, Princeton; 7 (217) Brad Robbins, P, Michigan; 7 (246) DJ Ivey, DB, Miami.
Notable undrafted free agents: Jaxson Kirkland, OL, Washington.
The lowdown: The Bengals whiffed on a tight end in the best class in at least a decade, but added speed at receiver, shored up their secondary and landed Clemson’s Murphy, who features very similar dimensions/traits to 2022 No. 1 overall draft pick Travon Walker.
Cleveland
Grade: A-
Draft picks: 3 (74) Cedric Tillman, WR, Tennessee; 4 (98) Siaki Ika, DT, Baylor; 4 (111) Dawand Jones, OT, Ohio State; 4 (126) Isaiah McGuire, EDGE, Missouri; 5 (140) Dorian Thompson-Robinson, QB, UCLA; 5 (142) Cameron Mitchell, CB, Northwestern; 6 (190) Luke Wypler, C, Ohio State.
Notable undrafted free agents: Ronnie Hickman, S, Ohio State; Mohamoud Diabate, LB, Utah; Lonnie Phelps, Edge, Kansas.
The lowdown: Trades for Deshaun Watson and Elijah Moore cost the Browns their first- and second-round picks, but GM Andrew Berry was still able to add a half dozen potential impact players, to go along with an impressive haul of priority free agents.
Pittsburgh
Grade: A
Draft picks: 1 (14) Broderick Jones, OT, Georgia; 2 (32) Joey Porter Jr., CB, Penn State; 2 (49) Keeanu Benton, DT, Wisconsin; 3 (93) Darnell Washington, TE, Georgia; 4 (132) Nick Herbig, OLB, Wisconsin; 7 (241) Cory Trice, CB, Purdue; 7 (251) Spencer Anderson, OG, Maryland.
Notable undrafted free agents: None.
The lowdown: GM Omar Khan aced his first draft, potentially securing Kenny Pickett’s blindside for the foreseeable future by trading up for Georgia’s Jones. Khan then landed a physical corner, interior rusher to take pressure off T.J. Watt and a potential cheat code at tight end on Day 2. Herbig could end up being one of the bigger steals of the draft on Day 3.
AFC SOUTH
Houston
Grade: A+
Draft picks: 1 (2) CJ Stroud, QB, Ohio State; 1 (3) Will Anderson Jr, LB, Alabama; 2 (62) Juice Scruggs, C, Penn State; 3 (69) Tank Dell, WR, Houston; 4 (109) Dylan Horton, DE, TCU; 5 (167) Henry To’oTo’o, ILB, Alabama; 6 (201) Jarrett Patterson, C, Notre Dame; 6 (205) Xavier Hutchinson, WR, Iowa State.
Notable undrafted free agents: Ali Gaye, Edge, LSU; Jesse Matthews, WR, San Diego State.
The lowdown: The Texans needed everything, everywhere, all at once, and GM Nick Caserio drafted eight potential starters, including the No. 1 (Anderson) and No. 5 (Stroud) players on my Big Board with a bold trade on Day 1.
Indianapolis
Grade: A+
Draft picks: 1 (4) Anthony Richardson, QB, Florida; 2 (44) Julius Brents, CB, Kansas State; 3 (79) Josh Downs, WR, North Carolina; 4 (106) Blake Freeland, OT, BYU; 4 (110) Adetomiwa Adebawore, DE, Northwestern; 5 (138) Darius Rush, CB, South Carolina; 5 (158) Daniel Scott, S, California; 5 (162) Will Mallory, TE, Miami; 5 (176) Evan Hull, RB, Northwestern; 7 (211) Titus Leo, ILB, Wagner; 7 (221) Jaylon Jones, CB, Texas A&M; 7 (236) Jake Witt, OT, Northern Michigan.
Notable undrafted free agents: Emil Ekiyor Jr., OL, Alabama.
The lowdown: This draft will be defined by Richardson’s development, but GM Chris Ballard absolutely nailed the rest of his picks, with the perfect mix of talent and upside throughout.
Jacksonville
Grade: B+
Draft picks: 1 (27) Anton Harrison, OT, Oklahoma; 2 (61) Brenton Strange, TE, Penn State; 3 (88) Tank Bigsby, RB, Auburn; 4 (121) Ventrell Miller, ILB, Florida; 4 (130) Tyler Lacy, DE, Oklahoma State; 5 (136) Yasir Abdullah, OLB, Louisville; 5 (160) Antonio Johnson, S, Texas A&M; 6 (185) Parker Washington, WR, Penn State; 6 (202) Christian Braswell, CB, Rutgers; 6 (208) Erick Hallett II, S, Pittsburgh; 7 (226) Cooper Hodges, G, Appalachian State; 7 (227) Raymond Vohasek, DT, North Carolina; 7 (240) Derek Parish, FB, Houston.
Notable undrafted free agents: None.
The lowdown: The pending suspension of Cam Robinson for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drug policy made the Jaguars’ need at tackle obvious, and Oklahoma’s Harrison could end up being an upgrade regardless. Texas A&M’s Johnson was considered a borderline first-rounder by most headed into the draft, so he was a significant value at No. 160 overall.
Tennessee
Grade: C+
Draft picks: 1 (11) Peter Skoronski, OT, Northwestern; 2 (33) Will Levis, QB, Kentucky; 3 (81) Tyjae Spears, RB, Tulane; 5 (147) Josh Whyle, TE, Cincinnati; 6 (186) Jaelyn Duncan, OT, Maryland; 7 (228) Colton Dowell, WR, UT Martin.
Notable undrafted free agents: John Ojukwu, OT, Boise State; Caleb Murphy, Edge, Ferris State.
The lowdown: As much as I like Skoronski and rookie GM Ran Carthon landing Levis in the second round — the Titans would have likely selected the Kentucky QB at No. 11 if their tackle wasn’t still on the board — I’m mildly shocked they didn’t address wide receiver earlier.
NFC WEST
Arizona
Grade: A-
Draft picks: 1 (6) Paris Johnson Jr., OT, Ohio St.; 2 (41) BJ Ojulari, Edge, LSU; 3 (72) Garrett Williams, CB, Syracuse; 3 (94) Michael Wilson, WR, Stanford; 4 (122) Joe Gaines II, OG, UCLA; 5 (139) Clayton Tune, QB, Houston; 5 (168) Owen Pappoe, LB, Auburn; 6 (180) Kei’Trel Clark, CB, Louisville; 6 (213) Dante Stills, DT, West Virginia.
Notable undrafted free agents: None.
The lowdown: Many believed the Cardinals would target an edge rusher towards the top of the draft, but I believed new GM Monti Ossenfort needed a cornerstone left tackle to protect their investment in Kyler Murray. Ossenfort did that and acquired a 2024 first-rounder in the process. Syracuse’s Williams has a Day 1 skillset, but slipped to Day 2 due to injury. Gaines and Pappoe were two of my favorite Day 3 selections.
L.A. Rams
Grade: A
Draft picks: 2 (36) Steve Avila, G, TCU; 3 (77) Byron Young, DE, Tennessee; 3 (89) Kobie Turner, DT, Wake Forest; 4 (128) Stetson Bennett, QB, Georgia; 5 (161) Nick Hampton, OLB, Appalachian State; 5 (174) Warren McClendon, OT, Georgia; 5 (175) Davis Allen, TE, Georgia; 5 (177) Puka Nacua, WR, BYU; 6 (182) Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB, TCU; 6 (189) Ochaun Mathis, DE, Nebraska; 6 (215) Zach Evans, RB, Ole Miss; 7 (223) Ethan Evans, P, Wingate; 7 (259) Desjuan Johnson, EDGE, Toledo.
Notable undrafted free agents: None.
The lowdown: GM Les Snead did a great job replenishing a depleted roster due to trades, free agency and injuries.
San Francisco
Grade: B-
Draft picks: 3 (87) Ji’Ayir Brown, S, Penn State; 3 (99) Jake Moody, K, Michigan; 3 (101) Cameron Latu, TE, Alabama; 5 (155) Darrell Luter, Jr., CB, South Alabama; 5 (173) Robert Beal, Jr., DE, Georgia; 6 (216) Dee Winters, ILB, TCU; 7 (247) Brayden Willis, TE, Oklahoma; 7 (253) Ronnie Bell, WR, Michigan; 7 (255) Jalen Graham, OLB, Purdue.
Notable undrafted free agents: Joey Fisher, OL, Shepherd; D’Shawn Jamison, CB, Texas.
The lowdown: There weren’t a lot of holes on this roster for GM John Lynch to fill. Moody may be the only immediate starter in the group, but it won’t be long before Brown is pairing with fellow safety Talanoa Hufanga to wreak havoc on opposing offenses. The rest of this haul was about replenishing depth, but I project Luter, Beal and Winters as eventual starters. My one criticism is not addressing depth on the offensive line.
Seattle
Grade: A
Draft picks: 1 (5) Devon Witherspoon, CB, Illinois; 1 (20) Jaxon Smith-Njigba, WR, Ohio State; 2 (37) Derick Hall, DE, Auburn; 2 (52) Zach Charbonnet, RB, UCLA; 4 (108) Anthony Bradford, OG, LSU; 4 (123) Cameron Young, DT, Mississippi State; 5 (151) Mike Morris, DE, Michigan; 5 (154) Olusegun Oluwatimi, C, Michigan; 6 (198) Jerrick Reed II, S, New Mexico; 7 (237) Kenny McIntosh, RB, Georgia.
Notable undrafted free agents: Jonah Tavai, DL, San Diego State.
The lowdown: Kudos to GM John Schneider for sticking to his board and taking Witherspoon with the fifth pick — the Seahawks almost never draft defensive backs on the first two days of the draft. Schneider also found his starting center in the fifth round (Oluwatimi), and drafted two of my favorite running backs in this draft.
NFC EAST
Dallas
Grade: B
Draft picks: 1 (26) Mazi Smith, DT, Michigan; 2 (58) Luke Schoonmaker, TE, Michigan; 3 (90) DeMarvion Overshown, LB, Texas; 4 (129) Viliami Fehoko, DE, San Jose State; 5 (169) Asim Richards, OT, North Carolina; 6 (178) Eric Scott Jr., CB, Southern Miss; 6 (212) Deuce Vaughn, RB, Kansas State; 7 (244) Jalen Brooks, WR, South Carolina.
Notable undrafted free agents: Tyrus Wheat, Edge, Mississippi State; Isaiah Land, Edge, Florida A&M.
The lowdown: The Cowboys added veteran talent with two pre-draft trades by sending two fifth-round picks to the Texans for wide receiver Brandin Cooks (No. 161 overall) and the Colts for cornerback Stephon Gilmore (No. 176). The addition of Smith should free-up Micah Parsons to make even more plays. The addition of Vaughn could shore up the backfield until Tony Pollard is fully healed.
N.Y. Giants
Grade: B+
Draft picks: 1 (24) Deonte Banks, CB, Maryland; 2 (57) John Michael-Schmitz, C, Minnesota; 3 (73) Jalin Hyatt, WR, Tennessee; 5 (172) Eric Gray, RB, Oklahoma; 6 (209) Tre Hawkins III, CB, Old Dominion; 7 (243) Jordan Riley, DT, Oregon; 7 (254) Gervarrius Owens, S, Houston.
Notable undrafted free agents: Bryce Ford-Wheaton, WR, West Virginia.
The lowdown: GM Joe Schoen landed starters with his first three picks at three very important positions.
Philadelphia
Grade: A+
Draft picks: 1 (9) Jalen Carter, DT, Georgia; 1 (30) Nolan Smith, EDGE, Georgia; 3 (65) Tyler Steen, OT, Alabama; 3 (66) Sydney Brown, S, Illinois; 4 (105) Kelee Ringo, CB, Georgia; 6 (188) Tanner McKee, QB, Stanford; 7 (249) Moro Ojomo, DE, Texas.
Notable undrafted free agents: Eli Ricks, CB, Alabama.
The lowdown: GM Howie Roseman continues to put on a masterclass in roster-building, landing the No. 3 (Carter) and No. 7 (Smith) players on my Big Board. Drafting Ringo in the fourth round gives the Eagles five players from a historically-good Bulldogs defense in 2021 and Brown was the No. 4 safety in my positional rankings (and one of my favorite players in this draft class).
Washington
Grade: B-
Draft picks: 1 (16) Emmanuel Forbes, CB, Mississippi State; 2 (47) Jartavius Martin, CB, Illinois; 3 (97) Ricky Stromberg, C, Arkansas; 4 (118) Braeden Daniels, OG, Utah; 5 (137) KJ Henry, DE, Clemson; 6 (193) Chris Rodriguez, RB, Kentucky; 7 (233) Andre Jones Jr., EDGE, Louisiana.
Notable undrafted free agents: None.
The lowdown: The Commanders addressed their needs in the secondary and on the offensive line in a significant way, but what about the rush (considering they declined Chase Young’s fifth-year option) or tight end?
NFC NORTH
Chicago
Grade: A
Draft picks: 1 (10) Darnell Wright, OT, Tennessee; 2 (53) Gervon Dexter, DT, Florida; 2 (56) Tyrique Stevenson, CB, Miami; 3 (64) Zacch Pickens, DT, South Carolina; 4 (115) Roschon Johnson, RB, Texas; 4 (133) Tyler Scott, WR, Cincinnati; 5 (148) Noah Sewell, ILB, Oregon; 5 (165) Terell Smith, CB, Minnesota; 7 (218) Travis Bell, DL, Kennesaw State; 7 (258) Kendall Williamson, S, Stanford.
Notable undrafted free agents: Tyson Bagent, QB, Shepherd.
The lowdown: The Bears drafted four starters on the first two days of the draft, but might have found four more with their first four picks on Day 3.
Detroit
Grade: B-
Draft picks: 1 (12) Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Alabama; 1 (18) Jack Campbell, LB, Iowa; 2 (34) Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa; 2 (45) Brian Branch, S, Alabama; 3 (68) Hendon Hooker, QB, Tennessee; 3 (96) Brodric Martin, DT, Western Kentucky; 5 (152) Colby Sorsdal, OT, William and Mary; 7 (219) Antoine Green, WR, North Carolina.
Notable undrafted free agents: Mohamed Ibrahim, RB, Minnesota; Brandon Joseph, S, Notre Dame; Starling Thomas V, CB, UAB.
The lowdown: I like Gibbs and Campbell too much to criticize where they were drafted. I also like LaPorta, but not enough to excuse ing on Notre Dame’s Michael Mayer. Branch was the No. 16 player on my Big Board — it’s malpractice by the rest of the league he was available at No. 45 — but Martin was a massive reach in the third round, especially considering they traded multiple picks to move up and get him.
Green Bay
Grade: B+
Draft picks: 1 (13) Lukas Van Ness, DE, Iowa; 2 (42) Luke Musgrave, TE, Oregon State; 2 (50) Jayden Reed, WR, Michigan State; 3 (78) Tucker Kraft, TE, South Dakota State; 4 (116) Colby Wooden, DT, Auburn; 5 (149) Sean Clifford, QB, Penn State; 5 (159) Dontayvion Wicks, WR, Virginia; 6 (179) Karl Brooks, DE, Bowling Green; 6 (207) Anders Carlson, PK, Auburn; 7 (232) Carrington Valentine, CB, Kentucky; 7 (235) Lew Nichols III, RB, Central Michigan; 7 (242) Anthony Johnson Jr., DB, Iowa State; 7 (256) Grant DuBose, WR, Charlotte.
Notable undrafted free agents: None.
The lowdown: Van Ness features one of the highest ceilings in the first round and Musgrave, Reed and Kraft will go a long ways in helping new starting QB Jordan Love acclimate to his new role. Bowling Green’s Brooks was one of my favorite selections on Day 3.
Minnesota
Grade: A
Draft picks: 1 (23) Jordan Addison, WR, USC; 3 (102) Mekhi Blackmon, CB, USC; 4 (134) Jay Ward, S, LSU; 5 (141) Jaquelin Roy, DT, LSU; 5 (164) Jaren Hall, QB, BYU; 6 (211) DeWayne McBride, RB, UAB.
Notable undrafted free agents: Ivan Pace Jr., LB, Cincinnati; Andre Carter, Edge, Army.
The lowdown: Addison is the perfect compliment to Justin Jefferson, while Blackmon and Ward should help shore up a leaky secondary. Hall is a developmental er, but he has enough starting traits to get excited for those who are ready to move on from Kirk Cousins.
NFC SOUTH
Atlanta
Grade: B+
Draft picks: 1 (8) Bijan Robinson, RB, Texas; 2 (38) Matthew Bergeron, OT, Syracuse; 3 (75) Zach Harrison, DE, Ohio State; 4 (113) Clark Phillips II, CB, Utah; 7 (224) DeMarcco Hellams, S, Alabama; 7 (225) Jovaughn Gwyn, OG, South Carolina.
Notable undrafted free agents: None.
The lowdown: Only Will Anderson Jr. was higher than Robinson on my Big Board. If Desmond Ridder isn’t the QB of the future, the Falcons will certainly be able to attract one with him, Kyle Pitts, Drake London and one of the best offensive lines in the League.
Carolina
Grade: B+
Draft picks: 1 (1) Bryce Young, QB, Alabama; 2 (39) Jonathan Mingo, WR, Ole Miss; 3 (80) D.J. Johnson, LB, Oregon; 4 (114) Chandler Zavala, OG, NC State; 5 (145) Jammie Robinson, S, Florida State.
Notable undrafted free agents: Rezjohn Wright, CB, Oregon State; Jalen Redmond, DL, Oklahoma.
The lowdown: The grade for this group is based on quality over quantity. Young is a franchise quarterback if they can protect him and the other four selections are potential impact players.
New Orleans
Grade: B+
Draft picks: 1 (29) Bryan Bresee, DT, Clemson; 2 (40) Isaiah Foskey, DE, Notre Dame; 3 (71) Kendre Miller, RB, TCU; 4 (103) Nick Saldiveri, OT, Old Dominion; 4 (127) Jake Haener, QB, Fresno State; 5 (146) Jordan Howen, S, Minnesota; 6 (195) AT Perry, WR, Wake Forest.
Notable undrafted free agents: Anfernee Orji, LB, Vanderbilt.
The lowdown: Based solely on talent, Bresee is not too far below Jalen Carter. Fingers crossed he can stay healthy (he’s due some good luck). Haener is a potential starter, but will initially serve as Derek Carr’s backup.
Tampa Bay
Grade: B
Draft picks: 1 (19) Calijah Kancey, DT, Pittsburgh; 2 (48) Cody Mauch, OL, North Dakota State; 3 (82) YaYa Diaby, DE, Louisville; 5 (153) SirVocea Dennis, ILB, Pittsburgh; 5 (171) Payne Durham, TE, Purdue; 6 (181) Josh Hayes, CB, Kansas State; 6 (191) Trey Palmer, WR, Nebraska; 6 (196) Jose Ramirez, OLB, Eastern Michigan.
Notable undrafted free agents: Kade Warner, WR, Kansas State; Sean Tucker, RB, Syracuse; Rakim Jarrett, WR, Maryland.
The lowdown: Kancey, Diaby and Ramirez (a steal in the sixth round) will refuel a depleted rush.
