UPDATED:

With the holidays almost upon us, let’s just it it: We’re in for a lot of chocolate. So now is the perfect time to learn more about it.

On Sunday, chocolate expert and Congregational Church of La Jolla’s director of music Nina Gilbert will give an interactive presentation that will explore chocolate’s connection to art, history, science, politics, economics and military science.

With hundreds of flavor compounds, Gilbert likens chocolate to wine or coffee and will offer tastes of different varietals to showcase its complexity. Single-origin chocolates from Venezuela, Hawaii, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and the Congo, plus two blended chocolates will be sampled.

Knowledge has no calories, by the way.
