Local casino expansion plans just keep rolling on.
Pechanga Resort & Casino is adding to its RV park, recently breaking ground on a project that will include 41 new sites and improved pool, pet and barbecue areas.
The RV park upgrade coincides with — and is in addition to — Pechanga’s $285 million resort expansion. Both are scheduled to be completed in December.
Officials at the Temecula resort said the RV expansion was driven by demand, with the 168-space facility having 100 percent occupancy every weekend and many weekdays during the year.
Among the 41 new spots, there will be two Chairman Sites of more than 2,400 square feet, with extensive patios, pergola, table and chairs, fire pits and private barbecues. Nine Presidential Sites will be over 1,000 square feet and 22 Buddy Sites will allow for two vehicles on either side of a shared, oversized patio, two tables and a pergola. A number of amenities at the RV complex will also be enhanced. Rates start at $50 a day.
Pala Casino Spa & Resort is the only other San Diego-area casino property with a designated RV park on its grounds. Pala opened its 10-acre, 100 site facility in May 2016.
Pechanga is one of five area casinos undergoing an expansion. Viejas Casino & Resort and Sycuan Casino are also significantly adding to its facilities, with new hotel towers, pools, restaurants and other amenities in multimillion-dollar projects. Harrah’s Resort Southern California and Barona Resort & Casino are completing more modest expansions.
Pechanga, already one of the most sizable casino resorts in the area, is doubling its hotel capacity to 1,090 rooms, which will make it the biggest casino hotel in California. In anticipation of the expansion completion, Pechanga is working to fill 750 new job positions. A two-day job fair held there June 15-16 attracted 1,149 applicants, said Ciara Green, a spokeswoman.
Positions for the new 4.5-acre pool complex, adjacent bar and grill and new spa will be posted on the Pechanga website July 1. Additional job fairs will also be held on July 12 (food and beverage positions), July 19 (hotel operations, including spa, golf, pool and housekeeping) and Aug. 9 (for a variety of those positions). Each of the job fairs will be held from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Eagles Nest, on the top floor of Pechanga.
The cost of the RV park expansion wasn’t immediately available, Green said.
